One thing we do try and fit in with our trips abroad are local football matches. I've been lucky enough to see club football in the following countries:

Scotland - several games, mostly Rangers, Partick Thistle and Clydebank.

England - well, I do live here! Far too many games to list, but most involve Southampton FC or Worthing FC.

Wales - three games so far: Cardiff v Saints, Swansea v Brighton and Saints v Arsenal in the 2003 FA Cup Final.

Liechtenstein - FC Vaduz 2 - FC Dacia Chisinau 0, UEFA Cup, July 2005.

Moldova - FC Dacia 1 - Nistru Otaci 3, top division, Oct 2004.

Portugal - FC Maia 2 - Rio Ave 1, second division, Nov 2002; Boavista 0 - Gil Vicente 1, top division, Nov 2002.

Romania - Steaua Bucharest 1 - Southampton 0, UEFA Cup, Oct 2003.

Slovakia - Inter Bratislva - Petrzalka (Inter won, I think!), top division, April 2004.

Spain - FC Barcelona 1 - Real Sociedad 0, November 1986; Espanyol - Rayo Vallecano (can't remember!), La Liga, Sept 2001.

Sweden - Hammarby 1 - Cork City 0, Intertoto Cup 2nd Round 2nd Leg, July 2007

Turkey - Galatasary - Malatyaspor (left at half-time due to blizzard!), top division, Feb 2003.

Ukraine - Arsenal Kyiv 0 - Metallist Kharkiv 0, Premier League, Oct 2006.
