other teams other teams | |||
(Dave - gonna get a life and stop using this as some kind of set-in-stone list?) As well as the main teams that I follow, there are a number of other teams I have an interest in, ranging from casual interest to mild support. I've also been to a number of matches around Europe - see here for a country-by-country list. Partick Thistle (Scotland)- because they are the original "other" Glasgow team, and my Granda and godfather used to work at Firhill. 1860 Munich (Germany) - because "Die Lowen" are the real Munich team, and have great fans St Pauli (Germany) - because every self-respecting left-winger just has to support them Fortuna Dusseldorf (Germany) - because their away kit, sponsored by Die Toten Hosen, is the coolest shirt known to man. This page here explains this in a lot more up-to-date detail... Spvgg Unterhaching (Germany) - because they're the closest thing to a non-league team operating on the fringes of the Bundesliga Barcelona (Catalunya) - because they were the first team I ever saw (an eleventh birthday present), and they stand for Catalan independence Farnborough (England) (in the pre-Westley, yellow and blue era) - becasue they were the first non-league team I ever saw, and were very, very friendly Forest Green Rovers (England) - because, like many of the clubs in this list, they were exceptionally friendly Morecambe (England) - friendly, but with lovely pies too Dumbarton (Scotland) - because I once saw Saints play at Boghead in a friendly (1988), and also went to the old ground in it's last season; I don't think the toilets had been cleaned in the meantime! Aberdeen (Scotland) - because it's a very friendly club (although I'm sure most Glaswegian football fans would disagree), in very friendly place (ditto), and for a while in the 1980s, they gave a real alternative to the Old Firm. Slavia Prague (Czech Republic) - because they're the "intelligentsia's" team in Prague, and they're not Sparta! Viktoria Zizkov (Cxech Republic) - because they are the ultimate Prague underdogs, and have a really quaint and crumbling ground with an exceptionally cheap bar behind the goal. FC Copenhagen (Denmark) - because their fans are mental, and sing Scotland songs, and because they have the "Cooligans" Besiktas (Turkey) - because they are increasingly the team of the people in Turkey, and everyone in Antalya seemed to support them Antalyaspor (Turkey) - because it took me 3 days to get a shirt, and when I finally got one I was almost late for my flight home, after a mental ride with a sports shop owner through the back streets. NK Zagreb (Croatia) - because their "head" ultra was really nice to us, and took us into his office (next to the Chairman's) to sell us a scarf. Kispest Honved (Hungary) - because they are Ferenc Puskas' old team, they play in a suburb of Budapest with an amazingly cheap wine bar, and the bar staff are really friendly. Boavista (Portugal) - because they're the underdogs in Porto, they play in a great chess-board kit, and the bar staff were really friendly when we were there for a game. Rio Ave (Portugal) - because their fans are a really good laugh, and the crowds displays involve drums and big green teddy bears thrown from the players before the game.
